IMRT and IGRT capabilities are available at the Cancer Center at Fairfax and the Cancer Center at
Gaithersburg. These technologies are delivered with the
Elekta Synergy®
Digital Accelerator. Elekta's XVI allows us to image patients prior to treatment delivery, therefore assuring
exact patient set up with pinpoint accuracy.
SRS capabilities are currently available at the Cancer Center at Gaithersburg. SRS is delivered with the
Elekta Synergy S®,The Synergy S® is the newest linear accelerator by Elekta and is designed to provide
stereotactic radiosurgery treatments with the most advanced technology available by the pioneers of
SRS. The Cancer Center at Gaithersburg is proud to have the newest and only SRS unit of its kind in
Montgomery County.
Brachytherapy is the use of radioactive sources placed directly in the body. The Cancer Center at Fairfax
offers high dose rate (HDR) for the treatment of breast cancer - also known as Accelerated Partial Breast
Irradiation (APBI). HDR is also being used for gynecologic malignancies and can be used for prostate and
skin cancers.
